About

Jacob Urmanec is a software engineer focused on reliable cloud and operational software for complex systems.

Practice

The practice centers on cloud-native middleware, workflow orchestration, durable state, operator-facing monitoring, and verification across the deployment lifecycle.

These disciplines also support robotics, physical AI, advanced manufacturing, and production ML, where dependable data movement, observable system state, and resilient operations are essential.

Production foundation

More than six years of experience in a large U.S. telecom environment provide the foundation. The work includes Java and AWS systems supporting middleware, service fulfillment and assurance, long-running workflows, regression depth, anomaly detection, observability, and resiliency.

Three portfolio projects mirror those production patterns as thin, runnable slices: the event-driven middleware, serverless orchestration, and anomaly monitoring systems.

Current direction

The industrial telemetry bridge traces simulated ROS 2 / C++ telemetry through authenticated HTTPS ingest, durable cloud storage, and rule-based health signals — a narrow edge-to-cloud slice toward the infrastructure around intelligent physical systems.

Approach

Work starts with the operating problem, system boundaries, and failure modes. A narrow end-to-end slice is preferred when it can expose contracts and handoffs early. Deferred scope stays explicit, and verification concentrates on the paths that matter — from unit and integration tests to post-deploy smoke checks on live resources.

A traditional engineering background shapes that approach through constraints, lifecycle, verification, risk, and economics. Technology choices follow the operating need rather than leading it.

Where this fits

This work is most relevant to teams building cloud platforms, operational software, robotics infrastructure, industrial data systems, or production ML systems that need stronger reliability around data movement, orchestration, monitoring, and deployment.
